US Market Indicator Monitor
Tracks the CNN Fear & Greed Index and CBOE VIX volatility index as separate market condition indicators.
Current Reading
Fear & Greed Index
VIX (CBOE Volatility)
90-day Trend (VIX inverted)
VIX axis is inverted so both indicators move in the same direction — up = calm/greed, down = fear.
How to read these indicators
Extreme greed often coincides with short-term tops and extreme fear with bottoms. A spike in VIX above 30 historically clusters near capitulation lows.
| Fear & Greed | VIX | Suggested read |
|---|---|---|
| ≤ 25 (Extreme Fear) | ≥ 30 | Strong buy watch |
| ≤ 45 (Fear) | ≥ 20 | Staged accumulation |
| 46–59 (Neutral) | any | Hold / wait |
| ≥ 60 (Greed) | < 20 | Trim exposure |
| ≥ 75 (Extreme Greed) | < 15 | Strong sell watch |
FAQ
Is this investment advice?
No. The data is informational only and all investment decisions remain your own.
Why is VIX displayed inverted on the chart?
VIX rises with fear. To align its direction with the Fear & Greed Index (which falls with fear), the VIX axis is inverted. This makes both indicators move in the same visual direction.
